Western Cape Risk of Load Shedding

icalendar areas stages help

Eskom Status 1 st 01:08

The algorithm to generate the data & .ics files is based on Western Cape schedule areas 1 to 16.

Low tech option:

Print the area monthly views for your fridge or noticeboard so you can refer to the risk chart when you planning an event.

Smart phone, laptop or Desktop calendar application option:

Example of Load Shed Calendars

  1. Choose the suburb areas you are interested in.
  2. Copy the ics url.
  3. Then in your calendar app, subscribe to their urls (Don't import!) urls
  4. In your calendar app you can click the areas calendars on/off as needed.

The ics calendar files are in south african time, and will convert to the timezone of your calendar app, showing the actual time of the possible outage. So if you are in say Australia, you can see if your friends & family may experience loadshedding.

  1. How to add by url (using a link) to Google Calendar:
    • Desktop
    • Android
    • Iphone & Ipad
  2. How to subscribe to an external calendar on apple:
    • Apple mac
    • Apple iphone

New to the joys of multiple calendars? Browse more at Google or copy and subscribe to these:

  • South African public holidays
  • Phases of the Moon
  • Eccentric holidays (eg: towel day, talk like a pirate day)

Warning: Do not import a large ics file into your main personal calendar! This will clog it up. Always rather subscribe as then you'll get any updates. If you have accidentally imported, and want to bulk delete, you'll need something like the gcaltoolkit
